Volunteers of America

Project Name: Volunteers of America
Client/Owner: Volunteers of America, Chesapeake
Use: Residential Re-Entry Center
Type: Adaptive Reuse
Completion Date: July 2014

The Volunteers of America Residential Re-Entry Center is the adaptive reuse of an existing steel fabrication warehouse.  Azola teamed up with Volunteers of America, Chesapeake to design and build their  150 bed residential re-entry center (RRC).  Located on E. Monument St., in East Baltimore, the RRC replaces their existing facility, which is housed in an old motel across the street.  The building’s high ceilings and wide column spacing allowed for all functions of their operation to be under one roof.  The facility includes the residential living quarters, offices, classrooms, a large commercial kitchen and cafeteria, and an indoor basket ball court.  Design of the facility also included a future second level in the tall warehouse.
